After almost 40 years, the Junior World Championships returned to Bludenz for their 38th edition. From 11 to 15 January 2023, more than 100 young luge athletes from nearly 20 nations competed in Men’s and Women’s Singles, Doubles and the Team Relay.

The new Eiskanal Bludenz was officially opened on 29 October 2021. Construction began in 2018 and continued throughout the challenging COVID-19 period. After completing the project, everyone involved was delighted to finally present the new track to the public.

Starting on 13 February 2021, the Eiskanal Bludenz was iced for the first time and successfully tested over a period of five days for luge, skeleton and two-man bobsleigh.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Eiskanal Bludenz took place on 25 October 2018. The ceremony was attended by Vorarlberg’s Provincial Councillor for Sport, Barbara Schöbi-Fink, and Bludenz Mayor Josef “Mandi” Katzenmayer.

The old track was demolished due to the effects of climate change and high maintenance costs.

On 22 January 1984, Bludenz once again hosted a major international sporting event with the 2nd Junior World Championships in Doubles.

In 1981, Europe’s best young luge athletes gathered in Bludenz for the Junior European Championships – the first major international sporting event held in Bludenz.
